What Size Hail Can Damage Your Roof?
Your roof is one of those things you can’t cover or pull into a safe place to protect it from hail damage. Around here, we don’t always have hail with our thunderstorms, but when we do, it can sometimes pack a punch.
Quarter-size (1-inch in diameter) hail can cause damage to shingles that will reduce their lifespan. You may or may not see dents in your shingles. But you may be able to see dings and dents on roof flashing, gutters, and vents.
Wind velocity at the time of a hailstorm can increase the damage. This may also impact the sides of your house causing damage and broken windows.
